Hi!
Welcome to Jack's own page. We brought this crazy bundle of fun home on the 15th December 2001 - he was born on the 10th October. He is a Briard, quite a rare dog in the UK, having only been introduced here in the late 1960's. The breed first appeared in France, probably during the Middle Ages, although skeletal remains found in France have been shown to be virtually identical to that of the present day Briard - these remains were over 1000 years old! In France the Briard is known as the Berger de Brie.
He is a large dog, weighing up to 45kg fully grown when he will be slightly larger than an Old English Sheepdog. However, he is in no way a slow lumbering animal - quite the opposite in fact. A Briard is able to cover ground, stop and turn very quickly indeed; when running at full speed, he is a sight to behold! |
